How to Escape a Reading Slump
6 Steps to Get Out of a Reading Slump:
We all go through those ever dreaded reading slumps throughout our lives (unfortunately), where we go from enjoying so many books a week to not feeling like picking up any book whatsoever.
I've learn't a few things the past six weeks from personally being in a book slump myself, and I'm gladly here to share some tips and pointers with you to escape the slump!
1. Pick up a Contemporary Book
Go ahead and try a fluffy contemporary or even a romance, something thats not too heavy or hard to get into like a fantasy or sci-fi book, this tip helps me every time!2. Listen to an Audiobook
I personally love this one! Listening to an audiobook is great because its just like regular reading, just without the effort, all you've got to do is press play, sit back and listen whilst doing pretty much anything from driving, brushing your teeth or cooking dinner.3. Re-read your Favourite Book
You can't go wrong with your all time favourite book, you enjoyed it once, so why not enjoy it again to help you get back into the mood!4. Read a Novella
Try a novella or short story, sometimes we can become intimidated from the number of pages a book has, instead you can lower the challenge of reading by choosing something with a smaller page count, you'll be finished with the book in no time!5. Set aside some Reading Time
Whether you're busy with work, family, other hobbies or life in general, take some time to relax with a book and get some reading done. I'd recommend shorter times for reading such as 30 minutes, as you don't necessarily want to out do yourself, but make it enjoyable; have a snack, light up a candle, get cozy under a soft blanket or soak up the sun & the fresh air outside.6. Don't Force It!
Sometimes you just need a break from reading and that's okay! (Not for too long of course) So don't try to force yourself to read anything if you're not enjoying it or can't quite get into it, the book slump will surely pass in addition to these other tips. Some other Honourable Mentions:
- Watch booktube video's on youtube.- Watch book to movie adaptations.
- Visit a Library or book store.
I hope these tips helped you out, thanks for reading!
