REVIEW: Relative Strangers by Paula Garner
Book: Relative Strangers
Author: Paula Garner
Rating: 4 stars
Genre: YA Contemporary
This book was an absolute beautiful and emotional story about love, friendships and family.
This book focuses on a girl named Jules who lives with her single and very artistic mother. While searching for a baby picture for her yearbook photos one day, she comes across a shocking truth her mother has kept from her for most of her life, Jules was in foster care for her first 2 years.
Upon realisation of this, her relationship with her mother grows apart and she spends her time determined on getting to know her foster family more, which brings the added friendship with her foster brother Luke (plus a bit of a crush)..
I loved Jules as the main character, I felt like I really connected with her, from her insecurities to her love of food, it was a great story to read. I really enjoyed being apart of the journey she went through and absolutely adored her friendship with Eli, throughout all she was going through, Jules dropped everything to be there for him.
I only really had one problem with this story, which was the romance. I was a little disappointed to say the least, I just felt that the growing romance between Jules & Luke and the idea of it in the end was a little crushing and unexpected in my case.
Majority of the story was so focused on Jules' crush on Luke and the ending wasn't what I was expecting for them at all.
Other than that it was a lovely read and I would highly recommend!
