REVIEW: Wait For Me by Caroline Leech

Title: Wait For Me
Authors name: Caroline Leech
My Rating: 5/5 Stars
Genre: YA, Historical Fiction, Romance

Oh my heart! This book was phenomenal, all I wanted was to read a story that truly sucked me in and messed with my emotions, and that's exactly what 'Wait For Me' did. Best book I've read this year for sure! I loved all the mc's and enjoyed following Lorna's life.

This tells the story of an 18 year old girl named Lorna in Aberlady Scotland around 1945, when a POW German Soldier Paul, comes to work on her fathers farm. The two of them grow together in friendship and eventually love.

This story took me on a journey of emotions, from utter happiness to sadness, I even shed a few tears, specifically on page 280...
It was wonderful to experience history and what the people of Scotland were experiencing and going through during WWII, it was a heart wrenching story and it was told beautifully.
I felt like I was there in Aberlady on that farm with the characters in the 40s, and I loved that so much.

Now for the romance, I found that it was everything I wanted, it was perfect with a slow burning romance between Paul & Lorna, she loved him no matter the fact that he was a German soldier (though she disliked him when they first met). Paul was handsome and kind and utterly swoon worthy (my new fictional boyfriend btw)..
It's also great to know that there are many similar stories like this that happened back then, many POW soldiers married the woman they fell in love with on the farms they were working on.

  • 'Lorna Jane, do you honestly think that your old man can't spot the flush of the young girls cheek and the bounce in a young mans step? For all that he's a Jerry, Paul's a good lad.'

I love this line that Lorna's father says to her, he's truly accepting and adores his daughter, I lived for that whilst reading.

This book told a wonderful story of love, family & friendship and I would definitely recommend everyone to give it a read. Also some beautiful photos that I feel fit this story:
